Job summary

The Children’s Society is seeking a Systems Management Accountant to drive financial reporting, month-end closure, and business‑wide system improvements. You will work with budget holders, finance colleagues, and project teams to deliver actionable insights and support the finance transformation journey.

You will combine strong management accounting expertise with a passion for systems, data, and process improvement, helping to implement and adopt new ERP finance systems across the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Part-qualified accountant (CCAB) or qualified by experience.
  • Strong understanding of management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
  • Experience with cloud-based ERP finance systems.
  • Experience supporting finance system implementations or improvements.
  • Analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships across finance and non-finance teams.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to challenge constructively.
  • Advanced Excel and Office proficiency.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver insightful financial reporting and month-end closure support.

  • Fixed Term contract until 31 October 2027
  • 35 hours/week
  • Starting salary - £40,500 per annum
  • Location: Flexible / Hybrid working

We are embarking on an exciting finance transformation journey, including the implementation of a new finance ERP and the modernisation of finance processes, reporting, and ways of working. We are looking for a talented Systems Management Accountant to play a pivotal role in this transformation while providing high-quality financial management support across the organisation.

About the role:

As our Systems Management Accountant, you will combine strong management accounting expertise with a passion for systems, data, and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with budget holders, finance colleagues, project teams, and senior stakeholders to deliver insightful financial reporting, support month-end closure, supporting budget holders with operational and strategic decision-making, and help ensure the successful implementation and adoption of new finance systems and processes.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious finance professional who enjoys improving how finance operates and wants to influence organisational change while maintaining a focus on delivering excellent financial support.

Key skills and experience:

The required skills and competencies for this role are:

  • Part-qualified accountant (CCAB) or qualified by experience.
  • Strong understanding of management accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience working with cloud-based ERP finance systems.
  • Experience supporting finance system implementations, system upgrades, or continuous system improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial and operational data.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to provide constructive challenge.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Sound judgement and decision‑making capability.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for improving systems, processes, and ways of working.
It would also be an advantage if you have any of the following skills and competencies:
  • Experience working within the charity or not-for-profit sector.
  • Knowledge of finance transformation programmes and change management methodologies.
  • Experience of system testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and data migration activities.
  • Experience supporting system training and user adoption initiatives.
  • Understanding of project management principles and delivery frameworks.
