Job description

Red Bull Powertrains are offering a year-long placement opportunity within our Systems Engineering teams. In these hands-on roles you will be emersed into the heart of our state-of-the-art Technical and Testing facilities where we drive engineering and innovation to the limit to develop cutting-edge Formula 1 power units. Pushing boundaries is in our DNA!

We’re looking for individuals with a strong interest in areas such as internal combustion engine calibration, control systems engineering, embedded software development, plant modelling, data analysis, validation, and testing. This placement offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of disciplines including engineering, physics, mathematics, and data science while gaining hands-on experience in Power Unit engineering, product validation, durability testing and fault/failure investigation.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Contribute to all stages of the embedded control, calibration, and application process of optimising single cylinder and multi cylinder engines as well as hybrid power units - from controls strategy, embedded software validation, engine calibration and testing, to on track deployment of the 2027 Power Unit
  • Work within a team of engineers to define and develop and test embedded software strategies for PU control and performance optimisation
  • Applying engineering principles to understand the systems level interactions of the Power Unit to deliver on track reliability and performance
  • Building and validating numerical methods for calibration and application analysis to maximise performance and reliability
  • Interpreting and reporting data through technical documentation and presenting insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborating closely with all the technical teams to deliver world-class engineering solutions
  • Gaining direct exposure to the 2027 Formula 1 season and contributing to the future of Red Bull Powertrains

We’re looking for passionate, curious, and driven undergraduates who are eager to push the limits of engineering innovation in a fast paced, high-performance environment. If you're ready to take on real responsibility, solve real-world engineering challenges and contribute to the future of Red Bull Racing’s success on track, this is your opportunity.

Expected knowledge, experience & attributes of the successful candidates:
  • Knowledge and experience from at least one year of undergraduate study on either an engineering, mathematics or physics degree course
  • A solid understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply mathematical methods to solve real-world problems
  • Knowledge of Python, R, MATLAB, Simulink for system development and modelling
  • Experience in programming in C or C++(preferred)
  • Experience with handling and analysing data from simulations or physical tests, and confidence in preparing high-quality technical documentation
  • Ability to break complex technical problems down to fundamental principles and understand the contributing physics
  • Ability to demonstrate a genuine passion for engineering through involvement in extra-curricular projects, previous placements, or work experience
  • Positive, can-do, attitude and willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to follow best practice and work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working in a team environment

The placement will be for 1 year, starting July 2027.

At Red Bull Powertrains, we believe that success isn’t just about speed, it’s about the team behind the victory. We trust, support, and challenge each other, always pushing for better.
