Job description

Expleo is a trusted partner for engineering, quality services, and digital transformation. We collaborate with world-leading aerospace manufacturers, delivering cutting-edge solutions in structural analysis, finite element modelling, numerical simulation, and certification support. At Expleo, we foster innovation, technical excellence, and professional growth, empowering our teams to shape the future of aerospace engineering.

We are seeking Systems Engineers to support the development and integration of next‑generation sensing capabilities within the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). Working across multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to the delivery of advanced sensor systems that provide information advantage, battlespace awareness and mission effectiveness within complex and highly contested operational environments.

This role offers an opportunity to influence future combat air capability through the development, integration and optimisation of advanced sensing architectures, supporting delivery across the full engineering lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development and integration of advanced sensing capabilities for future combat air platforms.
  • Capture, analyse and manage stakeholder and system requirements.
  • Develop system architectures, functional decompositions and interface definitions.
  • Contribute to capability trade studies and technical decision‑making activities.
  • Support the integration of sensing capabilities within wider mission systems architectures.
  • Develop verification and validation strategies to demonstrate system performance.
  • Contribute to system modelling, analysis and performance assessment activities.
  • Produce and maintain engineering artefacts in accordance with programme requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical governance activities and customer engagements.
  • Work collaboratively across partner organisations, suppliers and customer teams.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related STEM discipline.
  • Applications are also welcomed from individuals with significant demonstrable experience who don’t hold formal qualifications.
  • Professional registration or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
Essential Skills
  • Integration and testing of complex systems.
Desired Skills
  • Someone for whom collaboration and working in partnership comes naturally. A confident communicator with the ability to negotiate.
  • You will also be self‑motivated with an energetic attitude, being able to transform complex problems into simple, elegant solution.
  • Capable of working across a portfolio of projects and business initiatives often at short notice. Someone who is an instinctive organiser with meticulous attention to detail, and who can motivate others to complete their actions so that the overall objectives are achieved.
  • Someone who understands ‘how’ you do things is just as important as ‘what’ you do – who will role model and apply our Principles.
  • A person who is resilient and adaptable, who can navigate ambiguity and complexity and help teams own and deliver day to day.
Experience
  • Experience delivering systems engineering activities within aerospace, defence or complex engineering environments.
  • Experience working across requirements, architecture and verification activities.
  • Sensor or radar system development experience.
  • Combat air, military aviation or defence programme experience.
  • Experience supporting digital engineering initiatives.
What Do I Need Before I Apply
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC).
  • Ability to satisfy customer security and export control requirements.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to customer and partner locations.
Benefits
  • Collaborative working environment – we stand shoulder to shoulder with our clients and ourpeers through good times and challenges
  • We empower all passionate technology loving professionals by allowing them to expand their skills and take part in inspiring projects
  • ExpleoAcademy - enables you to acquire and develop the right skills by delivering a suite of accredited training courses
