Job summary

CBSbutler is seeking a Systems Engineer - MBSE for a hybrid role in Kidderminster, supporting a leading UK defence organisation.

You will help establish MBSE practices, configure ALM environments, and mentor engineers, guiding systems thinking across the lifecycle from concept to in-service support.

Qualifications

• Degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical, Aerospace, or related discipline.
• Experience in complex engineering or product development environments.
• Understanding of requirements management, interface definition, V&V, trade studies, and the Systems Engineering V-Model.
• Experience with ALM or requirements tools: IBM DOORS, CodeBeamer, Polarion, Jama Connect.
• Strong communication skills; able to explain technical concepts to specialists and non-specialists.
• Experience in aerospace/defence or safety-critical environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve the systems engineering methodology using INCOSE and ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288.
• Own and configure the requirements management and ALM environment with robust traceability and change control.
• Develop scalable digital engineering processes for development programmes.
• Create end-to-end traceability from customer needs to system requirements and product architecture.
• Coach engineers to build systems engineering capability across multidisciplinary teams.
• Produce process documentation, training material, and practical examples to drive best practice adoption.
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing and project teams to embed systems engineering across the lifecycle.

Systems Engineer - MBSE

• Kidderminster | Hybrid Working
• £45,000 - £55,000 + excellent bens.

Digital engineering is transforming how complex products are designed, developed and supported. We're supporting a leading UK defence engineering organisation looking for a Systems Engineer - MBSE to play a central role in that transformation.

This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional requirements management and help build a modern systems engineering capability that will influence how future products are developed across the entire engineering function.

Working closely with the Digital Engineering Manager, you'll help establish and embed Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles across the business. Rather than operating as a standalone systems engineering function, you'll be instrumental in creating an engineering culture where systems thinking becomes part of every engineer's approach.

You'll be involved from early concept and technology development through design, qualification, production and in-service support, ensuring requirements are managed effectively throughout the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and improving the organisation's systems engineering methodology using recognised frameworks such as INCOSE, NASA Systems Engineering Handbook and ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 & 29148.
• Owning and configuring the requirements management and ALM environment, ensuring robust requirements capture, architecture, traceability, baselining and change control.
• Developing scalable digital engineering processes that can be proven on development programmes before being deployed across the wider business.
• Building end-to-end traceability between customer needs, system requirements and physical product architecture.
• Coaching and mentoring engineers to develop systems engineering capability across multidisciplinary teams.
• Producing process documentation, training material and practical examples to drive adoption of best practice.
• Working alongside design, manufacturing and project teams to ensure systems engineering principles are embedded throughout the development lifecycle.

We're looking for engineers who have:

• A degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience working within complex engineering or product development environments.
• A solid understanding of systems engineering principles including requirements management, interface definition, verification & validation, trade studies and the Systems Engineering V-Model.
• Experience using ALM or requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS, Codebeamer, Polarion or Jama Connect.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both specialists and non-specialists.
• Experience within aerospace, defence or another safety-critical engineering environment would be highly advantageous.

This role would suit Systems Engineers, Requirements Engineers, MBSE Engineers or Design Engineers who have developed strong systems engineering experience and want to play a key role in driving digital engineering within a highly advanced engineering organisation.
