Job summary

CBSbutler is assisting a leading UK defence engineering organisation to recruit a Senior Systems Engineer (MBSE). You will help move beyond traditional requirements mgmt and establish modern MBSE practices across the engineering function.

From concept through design, qualification, production and in-service support, you will ensure requirements are managed and embedded throughout the lifecycle, coaching others and delivering robust process documentation.

Qualifications

• Degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical, Aerospace or related discipline.
• Experience in complex engineering or product development environments.
• Solid understanding of requirements mgmt, interface definition, V-Model, V&V.

Responsibilities

• Develop and embed MBSE across the business using recognised frameworks (INCOSE, NASA, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 & 29148).
• Own and configure requirements management and ALM environment with traceability and change control.
• Develop scalable digital engineering processes for development programmes.
• Create end-to-end traceability between customer needs, system requirements and product architecture.
• Coach engineers to build MBSE capability across multidisciplinary teams.
• Produce process docs, training materials and practical examples to drive adoption.
• Work with design, manufacturing and project teams to embed MBSE across the lifecycle.

Job description

Digital engineering is transforming how complex products are designed, developed and supported. We're supporting a leading UK defence engineering organisation looking for a Senior Systems Engineer (MBSE) to play a central role in that transformation.

This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional requirements management and help build a modern systems engineering capability that will influence how future products are developed across the entire engineering function.

Working closely with the Digital Engineering Manager, you'll help establish and embed Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles across the business.

Rather than operating as a standalone systems engineering function, you'll be instrumental in creating an engineering culture where systems thinking becomes part of every engineer's approach.

You’ll be involved from early concept and technology development through design, qualification, production and in-service support, ensuring requirements are managed effectively throughout the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and improving the organisation's systems engineering methodology using recognised frameworks such as INCOSE, NASA Systems Engineering Handbook and ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 & 29148.
• Owning and configuring the requirements management and ALM environment, ensuring robust requirements capture, architecture, traceability, baselining and change control.
• Developing scalable digital engineering processes that can be proven on development programmes before being deployed across the wider business.
• Building end-to-end traceability between customer needs, system requirements and physical product architecture.
• Coaching and mentoring engineers to develop systems engineering capability across multidisciplinary teams.
• Producing process documentation, training material and practical examples to drive adoption of best practice.
• Working alongside design, manufacturing and project teams to ensure systems engineering principles are embedded throughout the development lifecycle.

We're looking for engineers who have:

• A degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience working within complex engineering or product development environments.
• A solid understanding of systems engineering principles including requirements management, interface definition, verification & validation, trade studies and the Systems Engineering V-Model.
• Experience using ALM or requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS, Codebeamer, Polarion or Jama Connect.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both specialists and non-specialists.
• Experience within aerospace, defence or another safety-critical engineering environment would be highly advantageous.

This role would suit Systems Engineers, Requirements Engineers, MBSE Engineers or Design Engineers who have developed strong systems engineering experience and want to play a key role in driving digital engineering within a highly advanced engineering organisation.
