Job summary

Safran Engineering Services UK Limited in Pitstone is seeking a Systems Engineer to lead the development of electrical power generation and distribution systems for aircraft. You will work within the Systems Engineering team across the full lifecycle, performing requirements definition, architecture design, and V&V planning while contributing to certification documentation and customer interfaces.

Qualifications

• A degree in Electrical, Electronic, Aeronautical, Systems or Control Engineering or other appropriate professional qualification.
• A strong interest in systems design and integration related to electrical power generation and distribution.
• Experience with safety-critical systems and interpreting customer/internal specifications to extract technical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Define system requirements in collaboration with the customer within a team context.
• Design system architectures, perform performance analysis and consider integration aspects.
• Manage requirements and conduct compliance analysis across the life cycle.
• Make and communicate Systems-related technical decisions and serve as the customer interface.
• Contribute to system test rig design, commissioning and testing.
• Support system testing at site and at customer facilities.
• Prepare documentation for system qualification and aircraft certification (interfaces, system descriptions, test specs/reports).
• Support compiling documentation for Safety of Flight/Certification and issuing the System Declaration of Design and Performance (DDP).
• Create project plans and Monthly Execution Plans and participate in daily stand-up meetings to keep budgets on track.
• Assist in pursuing new business opportunities and responding to Requests for Proposal.

The team has expertise in designing and developing electrical systems comprising generators, power conversion, control systems and electric motors for aircraft propulsion.

If you want to help deliver this future, we are looking for enthusiastic and creative people to join our team. The role can be - Inside IR35 Contractor or fixed term employment for 12m with a potential for it to be permanent after this period.

Based at the Centre of Excellence in Pitstone you will work within the Systems Engineering team to lead the development of advanced aircraft electrical power generation, distribution and propulsion systems. A Systems Engineer is required to maintain the correct level of Systems Design throughout a project life cycle. Working within a flexible engineering environment this role will become part of a team of highly motivated, skilled and experienced individuals whose primary activities relate to electrical power generation and distribution systems, and include:

• System requirement definition, working with the customer in a team context
• System design including architectures, performance analysis and integration aspects
• Requirement management and compliance analysis
• Responsible for Systems related technical decisions and providing the Systems interface to the customer.
• Participation in system test rig design, test rig commissioning and system testing
• Support of system testing at the site and customer's facility
• Preparation of documentation with the end goal of system qualification and aircraft certification (including system specifications, interface control documents, system description documents, test specifications and reports)
• Support for compiling and collating documentation for Safety of Flight / Certification, and issuing the System Declaration of Design and Performance (DDP)
• Generation of Project plans and Monthly Execution Plans (MEP) and attending daily stand-up meetings to ensure the Programme Engineering budget is met
• Supporting new business growth in promoting the company's capability to customers, in investigating possible opportunities and in preparation of responses to customer Requests for Proposal

• A degree in Electrical, Electronic, Aeronautical, Systems or Control Engineering or other appropriate professional qualification
• A strong interest in systems design and integration, and their application to electrical power generation and distribution
• Work experience in, and a broad understanding of, aircraft or other complex safety-critical systems
• Use of DOORS software.
• Good understanding of the System Engineering process and its application to the product lifecycle
• Experience of understanding and interpreting customer and internal specifications to extract technical requirements, building strong relationships with external and internal customers
• System architecture decomposition and definition, Integration V&V planning, System requirement definition, Validation, Implementation, System verification etc
