Job summary

Dexter Talent’s client in Manchester is seeking a Systems Engineer to join a small IT team with real ownership over core platforms, focusing on reliability, security and performance.

You’ll maintain 24/7 availability, administer virtualization and cloud platforms (Proxmox, AWS), manage networking and firewall security, and support Linux and Windows servers, Nginx, PostgreSQL/MySQL, Active Directory and Microsoft 365.

Job description

A fantastic client of ours is looking for a Systems Engineer to join a small, close-knit IT team in Manchester city centre. This is primarily a systems and infrastructure role where you'll have real ownership over business-critical platforms, assuring reliability, security and performance are at the heart of what you'll be doing. Development experience is a bonus too!

What you'll be doing

• Maintaining the availability, stability and performance of core systems working towards 24/7 reliability
• Supporting and administering virtualisation and cloud platforms including Proxmox and AWS
• Managing networking fundamentals, firewall management and security
• Administering Linux and Windows servers, Nginx, PostgreSQL/MySQL, Active Directory and Microsoft 365
• Monitoring system health and responding to incidents
• Contributing to backup and resilience planning
• Providing occasional support and bug fixes across existing applications as priorities allow

You'll need

• Solid hands-on experience administering Linux servers in a production environment
• Practical experience with a virtualisation or cloud platform such as Proxmox, AWS or similar
• Working knowledge of core networking concepts and firewall management
• Comfortable owning problems end-to-end in a small team environment
• Exposure to Windows Server, Active Directory or Microsoft 365
• Exposure to GCP or Firebase

What's on offer

£40,000 - £50,000 depending on experience, hybrid working with two days day a week in the Manchester city centre office and the chance to join a lean team with genuine ownership over the systems you manage.
