Job summary

Elsevier’s Mendeley Infrastructure team is seeking a Systems Engineer to design, operate, and continuously improve cloud-based enterprise infrastructure. You’ll work onAWS/Azure/GCP environments, automate with IaC, and collaborate across development, support, and platform teams to deliver reliable, scalable systems.

You’ll contribute to monitoring, security, and CI/CD practices while supporting operational excellence and change processes in a dynamic, globally distributed environment.

Qualifications

• Cloud infrastructure experience within cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and automation.
• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Linux administration and scripting using Bash or Python.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes containerization.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as New Relic.
• Knowledge of change and incident management processes.
• Good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design and implementation of cloud infrastructure solutions within established architectural guidelines.
• Respond to and diagnose system management alerts and operational exceptions, escalating where appropriate.
• Apply and advocate infrastructure best practices within the team.
• Contribute to scripts, automation, and Infrastructure as Code development.
• Participate in change management processes, ensuring changes are properly documented, tested, and executed.
• Collaborate closely with development, support, and platform teams.
• Assist in daily support of assigned systems and products through proactive monitoring and early detection of issues.
• Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain cloud infrastructure components across multiple environments.

About the Role As a Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the design, operation, and continuous improvement of cloud-based enterprise environments. Working independently on moderately complex initiatives, you will help build reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure while supporting operational excellence across multiple environments. This role offers the opportunity to work with cloud technologies, automation, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices, while collaborating closely with development, support, and platform teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
