Job summary

RELX's Mendeley Infrastructure team is seeking a Systems Engineer to design, operate, and improve cloud-based enterprise environments. You will work on AWS-based infrastructure, automation, and IaC to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable platforms powering researchers worldwide.

You will collaborate with development, support, and platform teams, drive operational excellence, and contribute to modern cloud architectures while maintaining strong change control and incident response practices

Qualifications

• Experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Proficient with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation).
• Strong Linux administration and scripting (Bash/Python).
• Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Familiar with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., New Relic).
• Knowledge of change and incident management processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

About The Role

As a Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the design, operation, and continuous improvement of cloud-based enterprise environments. Working independently on moderately complex initiatives, you will help build reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure while supporting operational excellence across multiple environments. This role offers the opportunity to work with cloud technologies, automation, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices, while collaborating closely with development, support, and platform teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design and implementation of cloud infrastructure solutions within established architectural guidelines
• Respond to and assist in diagnosing system management alerts and operational exceptions, escalating where appropriate
• Apply and advocate infrastructure best practices within the team
• Contribute to scripts, automation, and Infrastructure as Code development
• Participate in change management processes, ensuring changes are properly documented, tested, and executed
• Collaborate closely with development, support, and platform teams
• Assist in daily support of assigned systems and products through proactive monitoring and early detection of issues
• Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain cloud infrastructure components across multiple environments

Requirements

• Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools
• Linux administration and scripting skills using Bash, Python, or similar technologies
• Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Familiarity with system monitoring tools such as New Relic or similar
• Knowledge of change and incident management processes
• Good oral and written communication skills
