Job description

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to new product innovations that set AWS apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers requiring specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Our Region Services team redefines how AWS designs, builds, and operates AWS regions to enable new AWS Cloud Infrastructure and Services offerings across industries and organization sizes, including start-ups, enterprises, and public sector organizations. We are seeking experienced Systems Development Engineers with a strong background in automation and operations.

Must hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance (see https://www1.defence.gov.au/security/clearances).

Key job responsibilities
  1. Support the refinement of system requirements, participate in developing and delivering operability-related features such as system health monitoring, diagnostics, repair, and automation.
  2. Develop or improve existing application and system management tools and processes to reduce manual efforts and increase efficiency.
  3. Adapt and enhance operations management systems and processes for rapid growth in systems and traffic.
  4. Participate in designing and executing production acceptance tests and evaluating new hardware.
  5. Monitor fleet health, automate system health, maintenance, and reporting systems as needed.
  6. Participate in “on-call” rotations to resolve incidents outside regular hours.
A day in the life

This role involves collaborating with technology leaders, enhancing daily operations, and improving availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency to deliver scalable services and high-availability experiences for our Region Services customers. If you are an experienced professional seeking a challenging and impactful opportunity, join us in building a top-tier development engineering and operations team aligned with AWS’s commitment to customer satisfaction and innovation.

  • Understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, load balancing, load shedding) and monitoring frameworks (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic).
  • Scripting skills in Bash, Python, etc., and experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
