Job description

We're looking for a Systems Developer to join our Pensions Team here at the NCIs.
About the Department/Role

The Church of England Pensions Board (“the Pensions Board”) is a statutory body which is the corporate trustee and administrator of defined benefit (final salary, hybrid, and CARE) and defined contribution pension arrangements. We are the trustee and administrator of 3 major pension schemes (Church of England Funded Pension Scheme, Church Workers Pension Fund, and Church Administrators Pensions Fund). We also administer the Clergy Pension Measures and Church Commissioners Superannuation Scheme on behalf of the Church Commissioners. Additionally, we oversee two charitable schemes supporting retired clergy and their dependants in financial need. Our community includes 44,000+ members, pensioners, and beneficiaries.

What you'll be doing

You will lead the maintenance, design, and development of scheme calculations within our pension administration system, Universal Pensions Management (UPM2).

Responsibilities include:

  1. Assist with designing and developing calculations within the UPM system.
  2. Define requirements, scope, and specifications for calculation changes.
  3. Plan and execute ongoing calculation development aligned with departmental needs.
  4. Coordinate testing and deployment of system upgrades and software releases to ensure calculation integrity.
  5. Maintain technical specifications for benefit calculations.
  6. Implement system modifications to support calculation amendments through database updates and communication templates.
  7. Potentially engage in other system team activities, such as automation projects or portal enhancements.

Please note, this is a fully remote role.

About You

The Church of England values diversity and inclusion. We especially welcome applications from UK Minoritised Ethnicities (UKME)/Global Majority Heritage (GMH) and under-represented groups. As a Disability Confident employer, we are committed to recruiting disabled candidates and offer interviews to those who meet the role's minimum criteria.

You'll need to have:
  • Experience with database and workflow management applications.
  • Experience with modern pension administration systems, including UPM2 and calculation development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL.
  • Experience with JavaScript, C++, or C#.

Please refer to the full Job Description for more details about the role and person specifications.

What we offer

Salary: £63,488 per annum, plus pension contributions of 8-15%, with additional matching of contributions up to 3%.

Benefits include:

  • 25 days annual leave (increasing to 30 days within 5 years), plus bank holidays and additional days (pro-rated for part-time).
  • Flexible working arrangements, subject to departmental needs.
  • Family Friendly Programme benefits, including enhanced maternity, adoption, paternity, and shared parental leave, plus development opportunities.
  • Health benefits through Medicash, including dental, optical, and therapy reimbursements, virtual GP services, and helplines.
  • Access to Occupational Health, Employee Assistance Programme, and other staff amenities.
  • Opportunities for social and sports club memberships and staff networks.
