Job summary

Prodrive in Banbury, Oxfordshire, is seeking a Systems and Controls Engineer to maintain reliability and improve performance across Motorsport Programmes, with a focus on Rally Raid. The role can be Engineer or Senior Engineer depending on experience, and involves embedded control software, model-based development, and collaboration with software, electrical and customer-support teams.

Job description

Our skilled Technicians, Mechanics, Fabricators and Engineers work together every step of the way to design, build and run elite competition cars on the track and off-road across the globe.

We are looking for a Systems and Controls Engineer to assist with maintaining reliability and improving performance, supporting operational activities across all our Motorsport Programmes, with a key focus on Rally Raid programmes, and the development of new data and software systems. Position could be Engineer or Senior Engineer depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage electronic system specification and software updates for all Prodrive Motorsport products.
  • Data analysis and system-wide commissioning of rally and race cars both on event, remote and factory based testing.
  • Develop and optimise control strategies to maximise performance, drivability, efficiency and reliability for vehicle sub systems.
  • Work closely with Software, Electrical and Customer Support teams, aiming at supporting both Factory and Customer teams with their electrical and electronics needs.
  • Work with championship organisers to ensure Prodrive Motorsport’s products adherence to regulations at all times.
  • Develop and maintain embedded control software for motorsport applications.
  • Develop control algorithms using model-based development techniques.
  • Implement controls solutions for powertrain, torque management, driveline, thermal management, vehicle dynamics, electrical power management and driver interface systems.
  • Support software integration, release management and configuration control activities.
  • This position is factory based in Banbury, Oxfordshire, UK.
Who are we looking for?
  • You will be competent in IT support and development (General MS Windows support including networking, plus MS Office suite including Excel+VBA). Programming including Matlab, Simulink, Python, C.
  • Familiarity with Bosch Motorsport tool chain. Widarab, RaceCon etc.
  • A strong understanding of wiring looms at a system level and ability to troubleshoot existing looms.
  • A strong understanding various communication protocols such as CAN, LIN & Ethernet, and ability to troubleshoot existing buses and networks.
  • Experience in motorsport or automotive control units, data loggers and related software (Bosch Motorsport ecosystem is an advantage).
  • A good understanding of individual vehicle systems such as engine, transmission, HVAC, electrical distribution, etc.
  • You will have efficient spoken and written communication skills.
  • An innate ability to operate both independently and in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Possess excellent organisation, prioritisation, and coordination skills.
  • An ability to work effectively and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and experience in working under pressure.
