Job description

The Systematic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) Scheduler is responsible for the accurate and timely entry of Chemotherapy patient information into KOMS patient management systems. It is imperative to maintain high and effective communication with the Multi-Disciplinary team relating to all aspects of the role, sometimes in challenging and complex situations.

  1. Manage, coordinate, and review the chemotherapy scheduling process, working closely with unit managers and the chemotherapy CNS to ensure patient appointments are booked effectively and efficiently.
  2. Maintain a good working knowledge of cancer pathways and targets.
  3. Coordinate and identify oral and IV regimes for haematology and oncology.
  4. Understand the impact of staffing levels and collaborate with the Unit Manager and other professionals to provide an integrated service.
  5. Identify additional patient needs and facilitate the provision of necessary support.
  6. Oversee the daily running of the Chemotherapy Scheduling service within the units to meet local and national targets.
  7. Escalate new chemotherapy regimens to matrons for inclusion in the scheduling system (KOMS).
  8. Liaise and coordinate with internal Trust departments for treatments and observations.
  9. Ensure effective booking of patients within guidelines and escalate as required.
  10. Understand the use of action sheets within KOMS, including live actioning, escalation, and prioritisation as appropriate.
