• 12+ months' experience as a swim teacher.

Job Description

Reporting to the Camp Manager and working alongside a team of ratio'd staff, swimming teachers are responsible for planning and delivering safe, structured, fun, and active sessions to children aged between 5 and 17 during the school holidays.

Swim Teachers need to adapt for varying age and ability levels (children are grouped by age: 5-7, 8-10, 11-14, 15-17), focusing on developing water confidence and basic stroke skills. Our programme emphasizes getting children active through structured games and fun activities, rather than traditional learn-to-swim lessons.

Safety is our top priority. Swim Teachers work closely with Lifeguards to prepare areas and equipment, manage risk assessments, monitor water conditions, and handle incidents. All staff and children must adhere to Kings Camps’ Swimming Policy, venue Operating Procedures, and Emergency Action Plan.

Sessions typically last between 30-45 minutes, with a maximum of 16 children per session. Sessions run between 9:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with session times and pool availability varying.

Child safety is paramount. You will supervise children during breaks, oversee swimming sessions, ensure the safe use of equipment, record incidents, implement behaviour management policies, and uphold health and safety standards.

We operate at various prestigious school and university venues across the UK, including partnerships with the RNRMC, Annington Trust, and the Army Welfare Service, running camps for serving personnel’s children at Military Establishments. Person Specification (flexible)

• SEQ Level 2 or STA Level 2 Swimming Teacher certification
• 12+ months' experience as a swim teacher
• 6+ months experience working with children aged 5-17
• Desirable: Lifeguarding qualification (NPLQ or NRASTC). Up-to-date certification required.
• Collaborative attitude, comfortable with rotating duties, and positive relationship-building skills with children, venue staff, parents, and colleagues
• Knowledge of risk assessments
• Ability to design, plan, and deliver safe, dynamic poolside sessions
