A community-focused organization in the United Kingdom is seeking a dedicated Swim Coach to oversee competitive swimming programs. Responsibilities include supervising practices, ensuring participant safety, and implementing new coaching techniques. Ideal candidates should possess strong leadership skills, effective communication, and a commitment to providing a positive experience. This part-time role involves fluctuating hours based on program needs and team events.
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director the Swim Coach will assist in the supervision of all aspects of the competitive swimming program, including teaching, administration and deck coaching as a representative of the YMCA at all team events and functions. They will also monitor the participants for safety and serve all member and non‑members of the YMCA in accordance with the purposes and policies of the association.
Reinforces the Y’s values within the organization and the community, effectively communicates the benefits and impact of the YMCA’s efforts, implements effective systems to develop volunteers at program and fundraising leadership levels. Develops strategies to ensure staff and volunteers reflect the community, builds strategic relationships to enhance support, and provides tools and resources for the development of others. Integrates multiple thinking processes to make decisions, involves members and community in program development and activities, ensures execution of plans, institutes sound accounting procedures and financial controls, and assigns clear accountability for continuous improvement. Fosters a learning environment embracing diverse abilities and approaches, creates a sense of urgency, anticipates challenges to growth, and demonstrates up‑to‑date knowledge and skills in technology.
Hours will be determined by the Aquatics Director. Hours are not guaranteed as a set per week; they will fluctuate depending on pool schedule, practice schedule, swim meets, number of participants, and other staff. The Swim Coach (as part‑time staff) will not work more than 25 hours per any week without prior approval from the Director of Aquatics.
Requires good physical health with full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye/hand coordination; corrected vision and hearing within normal range. May involve working under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
