Job summary

Coinford in Kent/Essex is seeking a dedicated Road Sweeper Driver to join our on-site team. You will operate road sweepers to keep roadways and site areas clean and safe, with daily checks and basic maintenance tasks.

During quieter periods you may assist with other site operations such as dumper or roller driving, while maintaining safety and compliance at all times.

Sweeper Driver
Role Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated Road Sweeper Driver to join our team, covering Kent/Essex. In this role, you will be responsible for keeping roadways, gullies, and site areas clean and safe to support ongoing construction activities. During quieter periods, such as the summer months, you may also be required to assist with other site operations, including driving dumpers or rollers.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Operations

  • Operate road sweepers to ensure roadways, gullies, and work areas remain clean and safe.
  • Perform daily and weekly visual and operational checks to ensure the vehicle is in good, safe working order.
  • Conduct basic sweeper maintenance, including changing brushes and keeping the vehicle clean inside and out.
  • Load vehicles safely with the correct materials, avoiding contamination and following all environmental, health, and safety protocols.
  • Plan daily workload efficiently to minimise disruption on-site.
  • Wash down and clean the sweeper before leaving the site or entering highways.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with site safety and highway regulations at all times.
  • Report any equipment issues or damages to your Line Manager promptly to ensure quick resolution.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date paperwork, timesheets, and maintenance logs.

Team Support

  • Support other site operations as required, including dumper and roller driving during quieter sweeper periods.

This role is varied and hands-on, the abovelist of duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of their role.

Experience / skills required:

Essential:

  • Valid HGV Licence and Driver CPC qualification.
  • Strong communication skills with a proactive and professional attitude.
  • Good timekeeping, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Resilience and ability to remain calm in challenging road or site situations.
  • Reasonable level of physical fitness to manage sweeper maintenance and cleaning duties.

Desirable:

  • Experience with left-hand drive vehicles.
  • Familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance (training provided if required).
  • Previous experience working onsite and operating plant.
  • Dumper or roller tickets (training provided if not held).
  • Familiarity with two-way radios and operational manuals.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety protocols on construction sites.

Please note: this job requires a reasonable level of fitness for changing and maintaining brushes and keeping the vehicle clean (both in and outside of the vehicle)
