Job summary

Redline UK in Colchester is seeking a Sustaining Hardware Engineer to maintain and extend the lifecycle of high‑reliability embedded computer hardware used in defence, aerospace and telecoms. You will work across high‑speed digital electronics, PCBs, memory and architectures to troubleshoot, modify and verify hardware.

Qualifications

• Experience with complex electronic systems and PCBs.
• Strong debugging and fault-finding skills.
• Experience modifying and troubleshooting existing hardware designs.
• Ability to understand and work from complex schematics.
• Experience with design verification and electronic testing.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain existing high-end computer systems and hardware.
• Manage component obsolescence and identify replacement components.
• Develop re-spins and modifications to legacy products to extend lifecycle.
• Investigate and resolve faults within existing hardware designs.
• Carry out small-scale hardware and schematic modifications.
• Support customer-specific product modifications and customisation requirements.
• Identify technical requirements and ensure analysis and development activities are completed.
• Work with the CAD team on PCB layout and verify designs.
• Conduct schematic and PCB design reviews.
• Perform design verification and testing after hardware modifications.
• Use laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes and analysers.
• Report technical issues and project progress.
• Prepare technical work for obsolescence management activities.
• Collaborate with design engineering and technical support teams.
• Provide input to improve engineering processes.
