Job summary

Colchester-based Sustaining Hardware Engineer role focusing on high-reliability embedded hardware used in defence, aerospace and telecom sectors. Office/lab based with occasional hybrid working, supporting lifecycle extension of complex PCBs and high-speed digital designs.

You will debug, modify and re-spin hardware, manage obsolescence, and verify changes with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, analyzers and thermal chambers, collaborating across engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Experience with complex electronic systems and PCBs.
• Strong debugging and fault-finding skills.
• Experience modifying and troubleshooting existing hardware designs.
• Ability to understand and work from complex schematics.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and extend the lifecycle of existing high-end electronic hardware.
• Manage component obsolescence and identify suitable replacements.
• Develop re-spins and modifications to legacy products.
• Investigate and resolve faults and technical issues in existing designs.
• Carry out small-scale hardware and schematic modifications.
• Support customer-specific product modifications and OBsolescence activities.
• Collaborate with CAD/engineering teams on PCB layouts and verifications.
• Conduct schematic and PCB design reviews and testing after modifications.
