Job Description:

About the opportunity:

Do you want to work in a field that matters - translating sustainability vision into real delivery - with enthusiastic people who care about this goal? There is considerable flexibility within this team to tailor roles to individual interests, career aspirations and other life commitments.

We work within the Energy, Security and Technology sector to deliver solutions to defence and security clients. Successful delivery needs to engage large numbers of people across a wide range of projects - estates, infrastructure, platforms, design, support services - and it needs to be done at pace. As a member of the Defence and Asset sustainability network, you will have a key role in collaborating with our established sustainability team, and working with our clients, supply chain and other internal teams to translate commitments into delivery and ensuring win-win outcomes.

This means you will need to be able to work on your own initiative and draw on the experience of those around you to deliver in a complex and challenging environment. Collaboration with the leadership team, sustainability team, other sustainability experts and those in project delivery will be necessary to improve sustainability performance for Amentum and for our clients. You will be able to see the bigger picture and know where the detail is important.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Taking a lead role to develop sustainability actions to achieve desired sustainable infrastructure outcomes and BREEAM/ DREAM ratings on a range of exciting projects. You will deliver this yourself and lead delivery through others.
  • Seeing the bigger picture to understand client and Amentum sustainability/ net zero requirements, and where the biggest opportunities for delivering more sustainable solutions and maximising sustainability value are.
  • Demonstrating leadership as part of a wider cultural evolution (behavioural change). This will include motivating interdisciplinary teams to better sustainability outcomes, great communications, nudging sustainability upskilling/ training appropriate to Amentum and client audiences and mentoring younger and less experienced colleagues.

  • The role can be delivered in a flexible manner by home and office working, and your base office could be any of our offices. Travel to Bristol and to UK-based client sites will be required.

We’ll inspire and empower you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed - today and into tomorrow. We offer an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.

People are our greatest asset, and we offer a competitive package to retain and attract the best talent. In addition to the benefits you’d expect, UK employees also receive free single medical cover and digital GP service, family-friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave pay and free membership of employee assistance and parental programmes, plus reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships. We also give back to our communities through our Collectively program which incorporates matched-funding, paid volunteering time and charitable donations.

Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for us. We’re happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.

    Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A passion for sustainability.
  • Sustainable infrastructure experience and knowledge of key issues and opportunities (such as green building standards relevant to sustainable construction) as they pertain to government departments and/or defence.
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary engineering or defence teams, from technical to senior levels, with the capability to lead delivery of BREEAM/ DREAM assessments.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, build trust and relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels of organisations, with a proven track record in motivating people to better sustainability outcomes.
  • Security clearance (or willing and able to obtain).

  • Desirable

  • BREEAM assessor qualifications.
  • Knowledge of/experience in nuclear and/or MOD sustainability methodology, standards and processes including DREAM.

  • Our Culture:

Our values stand on a foundation of safety, integrity, inclusion and diversity. We put people at the heart of our business, and we genuinely believe that we all succeed by supporting one another through our culture of caring. We value positive mental health and a sense of belonging for all employees.

We aim to embed inclusion and diversity in everything we do. We know that if we are inclusive, we’re more connected, and if we are diverse, we’re more creative. We accept people for who they are, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, mental health, race, faith or belief, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and whether you’re pregnant or on family leave. This is reflected in our wide range of Global Employee Networks centered on inclusion and diversity.

We partner with VERCIDA to help us attract and retain diverse talent. For greater online accessibility, please visit to view and access our roles.
