Job summary

Tarmac Trading Limited is seeking an Innovation Technologist to join the National Concrete Laboratory in Shawell, working on next-gen concrete technologies for UK infrastructure. This role blends lab research, field trials and customer engagement on low-carbon, high-performance materials.

You will lead development from concept to commercial application, with travel to sites and industry events as required. This fixed-term contract lasts two and a half years.

Qualifications

• Degree in Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Concrete Technology or related field.
• Experience in concrete technology or construction materials testing.
• Strong understanding of concrete constituents and durability.
• Ability to interpret specifications, standards and testing requirements.
• Willingness to travel with a full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Developing innovative concrete mixes and material solutions for critical infrastructure applications.
• Planning and managing laboratory testing programmes and analysing data.
• Delivering laboratory and production-scale trials to validate new materials and technologies.
• Collaborating with customers, universities, suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive innovation.
