Job summary

Bouygues Travaux Publics seeks a Sustainability & Carbon Engineer to join the Carbon Team in Tilbury, UK. You will deliver carbon and sustainability activities across the LTC programme, collecting and reporting data, and driving improvements in environmental performance.

We value expertise in carbon management, lifecycle assessments, and working across multidisciplinary project teams to advance sustainable delivery on major infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, construction, or related discipline.
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, environmental, sustainability, or carbon management roles.
  • Experience with data, reporting, analysis, or performance management systems.
  • Understanding of sustainability and carbon management principles in infrastructure.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement across teams.
  • Ability to analyse information, solve problems, and present findings.

Responsibilities

  • Support carbon and sustainability objectives delivery across the programme.
  • Collaborate with project teams to collect, analyse, and report carbon and environmental data.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sustainability and carbon performance and support implementation.
  • Contribute to carbon assessments, reporting, governance, and assurance.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on carbon, sustainability, and environmental management.
  • Promote best-practice approaches to sustainability and continuous improvement.

Job Title: Sustainability & Carbon Engineer

Department: Carbon Team
Reporting to: Carbon Manager

The Role

The Sustainability Engineer will support the delivery of carbon and sustainability activities across the programme, working under the direction of the Carbon Manager. The role will work closely with project teams and stakeholders to promote effective carbon management, robust data reporting, and continuous improvement in environmental and sustainability performance.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the collection, analysis, validation, and reporting of carbon and sustainability data across the programme, helping teams understand performance and identify opportunities for improvement. They will support programme-wide governance, assurance, and reporting activities while contributing to whole-life carbon assessments and the development of sustainable delivery practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the successful delivery of the programme's carbon and sustainability objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to collect, analyse, and report carbon and environmental performance information.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, construction, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, engineering, environmental, sustainability, or carbon management roles.
  • Experience working with data, reporting, analysis, or performance management systems.
  • Understanding of sustainability, environmental, or carbon management principles and their application within infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to analyse information, solve problems, and communicate findings clearly.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Experience of carbon accounting, environmental reporting, sustainability management systems, or performance reporting platforms.
  • Experience undertaking or supporting Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), whole-life carbon assessments, or similar environmental assessments.
  • Familiarity with standards and frameworks such as PAS 2080, GHG Protocol, RICS Whole Life Carbon, ISO 14001, or equivalent.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure, construction, or engineering projects.
  • Experience supporting, mentoring, or coordinating colleagues across teams.
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional institution.
