Job summary

Bouygues Travaux Publics is seeking an Environmental Manager for the Lower Thames Crossing project. You will monitor compliance with environmental permits, assist in EMS delivery, and supervise mitigation activities on site.

The role requires a degree in Environmental Management or similar, knowledge of ISO14001, and a track record in construction environment compliance. You will coordinate with design, production and stakeholders to ensure regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Management or relevant subject.
  • Knowledge of ISO14001 and regulatory requirements.
  • Qualified internal environment auditor or working towards.
  • Membership of IEMA, CIEEM, IES or equivalent environmental organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor compliance with project environmental permits and legislation.
  • Deliver EMS and environmental mitigation on site.
  • Produce site environmental plans and documentation.
  • Investigate and report environmental incidents.
  • Coordinate ecological and archaeological mitigation works on site.
  • Liaise with multiple project teams and stakeholders.

The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects. LTC is a new road that will connect Kent and Essex through a tunnel beneath the River Thames and will be the greenest road ever built in the UK - creating six times more green space than road. The reliable new route will almost double road capacity over the river east of London to reduce congestion and give millions of people more choice on where they live, work and spend their valuable time.

Job Title: Environmental Manager
Department: Environment
Reporting to: Head of Environment & Sustainability
Purpose of the job

The Environmental Manager will be responsible for monitoring compliance with project consents, environmental permits, legislation, assistance in the delivery of the EMS and supervision of environmental mitigation. Provide advice and support to the production team regarding the environmental constraints and processes. Responsible for managing / challenging / assuring construction DCO/EMS compliance and ensuring this is fully integrated into construction design, site works and programme.

Responsibilities
  • the day to day environmental management and inspection of works;
  • production of site environmental plans and documentation
  • overseeing, in conjunction with the Head of Environment, the delivery of all measures detailed in the Environmental Management Plans 2, EMS and supporting method statements;
  • investigating and reporting on environmental incidents;
  • co-ordination of ecological and archaeological mitigation works on site;
  • management of the monitoring of air, noise and water in conjunction with discipline leads and in accordance within agreed limits i.e. Section 61s;
  • liaising with BMJV’s construction, design, logistics, planning and project management teams;
  • management of aquatic and terrestrial protected and invasive species;
  • reviewing relevant production documents, including risk assessments, method statements and evidence relating to all proposed work activities;
  • conducting tool-box talks or other environmental and ecological briefings to production team and sub-contractors;
  • liaising with stakeholders and local authorities as required; and
  • undertaking other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
Skills & Experience

A degree or qualification in Environmental Management or relevant subject and experience which demonstrates applied knowledge of environmental and ecological procedures and compliance in the construction environment.

Qualifications And Experience Should Include
  • Thorough knowledge of the civil engineering design, construction and impacts on 3rd Parties;
  • Broad experience of multiple environmental disciplines;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • High standard of computer literacy;
  • Confidence and experience to challenge designs/methodology prepared by others;
  • Detailed knowledge of the ISO14001 standard;
  • Fully aware of regulatory, legislative and company requirements;
  • Qualified internal environment auditor or working towards;
  • Membership of IEMA, CIEEM, IES or equivalent environmental organisation; and
  • CSCS Card holder.
