Sagentia Innovation provides independent advisory and leading-edge product development services to a broad range of companies from some of the world’s leading and best-known brands, to start-up disruptors. We operate projects ranging in scale from £10k to £10m and serve customers across the medical, industrial, chemicals and energy, defence, food and beverage, and consumer sectors. We are part of Science Group (AIM:SAG), which has more than ten offices globally, two UK-based dedicated R&D innovation centers and more than 400 employees.

Our focus on sustainability

Sustainability is a significant area of practice within Sagentia Innovation, leveraging the unique blend of advisory, technical, compliance and regulatory expertise across Science Group. This allows us to bring technical, commercial and regulatory perspective to support the world’s biggest companies resolving their most difficult sustainability challenges.

Recent examples of sustainability challenges resolved for some of our global clients:

  • Foresight: What will be the future for circularity of plastics taking into account multiple stakeholder viewpoints (regulators & policy makers, NGOs, consumers, retailers, trade associations etc) and how can R&D ensure they have the strategy for operating in the circular economy of the future
  • Strategy: How can systems change be achieved in complex multi-stakeholder systems with the intent of unlocking sustainability?
  • Net Zero Roadmap: What should be the low-carbon technology roadmap for the short-, medium- and long-term, encompassing both current technology plans and newly identified technologies to close the emissions gap?
  • Appraising alternative technologies: What solutions are there to replace current surfactant sources and how viable are they technically, commercially and are they actually more sustainable across a range of metrics?

Key responsibilities

Working on Advisory projects as part of a team under the guidance of senior colleagues as follows:

  • Finding and understanding scientific and market data from secondary sources, including proprietary databases.
  • Conducting interviews to gain insights from academics, industry players, and market commentators.
  • Analysing data, including the selection and appropriate use of industry-standard analysis tools.
  • Developing and delivering sustainability strategies and recommendations with the support of senior colleagues.
  • Drafting insightful reports describing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

2. Client and team interaction

  • Recognise and understand the commercial, technical, and strategic factors and drivers affecting our clients and their potential impact on their current and future business.
  • Confidently engage with a wide variety of client stakeholders at different levels from practitioner to C-Suite level executives supporting meetings/facilitating workshops etc.
  • Clearly and articulately present project work at internal/external meetings.
  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues across the Sagentia Innovation and its sister companies across Science Group.
  • Supporting the creation of proposals and collateral material working with the sector vertical teams.

3. Adherence to Group policies and process

  • Maintain complete client confidentiality.
  • Ensure adherence to group project management practices, policies, and processes to ensure delivery of projects on time, budget and quality.

Experience and qualifications

  • Master’s degree (essential) or PhD in a scientific discipline (e.g., chemistry, physics, biosciences, environmental science). Experience of sustainability-related areas preferred.
  • Have a passion for, knowledge and ideally working experience of sustainability, e.g. (sustainability strategy, circularity, emissions reduction, water stewardship, waste reduction etc).
  • Ability to explain ideas in a clear and concise manner to both effectively communicate and create buy in to ideas and recommendations.
  • Excellent research and writing skills: attention to detail, and an ability to identify and summarise information from various sources under time pressure.
  • Experience in the use of secondary information tools, including databases of scientific literature or patents. Searching of market data would be an advantage.
  • Ability to efficiently deal with multiple tasks and prioritise under pressure.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Strong communication, time management, and planning skills (essential).
  • Professional proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.

We are committed to career development and make a focused effort to offer bespoke training and mentoring to allow each individual to thrive within their environment and realise personal potential.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.
