Job summary

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or physical science recognised by LR.
  • Security clearance or eligibility for clearance.
  • Marine New Construction experience and shipyard exposure.
  • Experience with LR or other classification society Rules & Regulations.
  • Willingness to work in defence sector and член in professional institution.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee hull structure and statutory elements to LR Naval Ship Rules.
  • Provide guidance on structural issues to project manager and client.
  • Produce deliverables within defined formats, deadlines and budgets.
  • Engage with internal/external clients to present solutions.
  • Pursue CPD to maintain discipline and knowledge.

  • Share knowledge and mentor colleagues; drive service delivery improvements.
  • Undertake routine administration in line with processes.

Job description

We are seeking a Naval Architect/Marine surveyor for a Naval New Build project to be based in Rosyth, Scotland.

In this role, as a New Build Surveyor, you will work alongside a six-person site team. You will oversee the structural hull and statutory elements of the build to the LR Naval Ship Rules and Naval Ship Codes.

Usingyour Naval Architecture background, you will be responsible for ensuring the vessels are built in accordance with the Rules and Regulations whilst providing support to the project manager and client on structural issues as they arise during the build period. The project is on-going, and the opportunity exists to join where you can make your mark on the project.

The role

  • Carry out related tasks and offer informed guidance for service delivery within your area of experience, ensuring work stays within budget and meets contractual obligations.
  • Produce deliverables within agreed parameters, adhering to defined formats, and meeting deadlines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Discuss and present deliverables with internal and external clients, offering suitable solutions when necessary.
  • Perform activities in accordance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development to maintain a high level of discipline, knowledge, and awareness.
  • Assess and recommend appropriate time and value for work undertaken for external clients, assisting in determining the most suitable fee and cost structure.
  • Provide guidance to other employees as needed, facilitating effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • Contribute to service delivery improvement by communicating internal and external client feedback as relevant.
  • Undertake routine administration tasks as required, following current processes and procedures.

What you bring

  • Security clearance or eligibility to be security cleared.
  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyds Register in the relevant field of engineering or physical science. The degree program should have been a minimum of two years in duration. Alternatively, qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship's officer will also be considered.
  • Previous relevant Marine New Construction experience and exposure to working within the Shipyard and the supply chain.
  • Experience with Lloyds Register or another Classification society Rules and Regulations.
  • Experience in the defence sector or willingness to work in this area
  • Membership in an appropriate professional institution.
  • Working toward Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Adherence to professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
  • The ability to utilize a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Capability to apply suitable theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, and maintain engineering products, processes, systems, and services.
  • Proficiency in technical and commercial management, such as project management and process management.
  • Proficiency in the English language that is suitable for the nature of the work.
