Job summary

Lloyd's Register in Rosyth, Scotland is seeking a Naval Architect/Marine surveyor for a Naval New Build project. Based in Rosyth, you will perform technical guidance, deliverables within budgets and deadlines, and present findings to clients.

The role requires Marine New Construction experience, LR or equivalent classification society knowledge, and ongoing professional development, with English proficiency and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.

Qualifications

  • Security clearance or eligibility to be security cleared.
  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd's Register in the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum two years duration).
  • Alternatively, qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship's officer will be considered.
  • Marine New Construction experience with exposure to Shipyard and supply chain.
  • Experience with Lloyds Register or another Classification society Rules and Regulations.
  • Experience in the defence sector or willingness to work in this area.
  • Membership in an appropriate professional institution.
  • Working toward Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Adherence to professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
  • Ability to apply general and specialized engineering knowledge to emerging technology.
  • Proficiency in technical and commercial management (project/process management).
  • Proficiency in English suitable for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out related tasks and provide informed guidance for service delivery within your area of experience, ensuring work stays within budget and meets contractual obligations.
  • Produce deliverables within agreed formats, meeting deadlines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Discuss and present deliverables with internal and external clients, offering suitable solutions when necessary.
  • Perform activities in accordance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development to maintain a high level of discipline and knowledge.
  • Assess and recommend appropriate time and value for work undertaken for external clients.
  • Provide guidance to other employees to facilitate knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to service delivery improvement by communicating client feedback.
  • Undertake routine administration tasks following current processes.

What You Bring
  • Security clearance or eligibility to be security cleared.

The degree program should have been a minimum of two years in duration. Alternatively, qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship's officer will also be considered.
  • Previous relevant Marine New Construction experience and exposure to working within the Shipyard and the supply chain.
  • Experience with Lloyds Register or another Classification society Rules and Regulations.
  • Experience in the defence sector or willingness to work in this area
  • Membership in an appropriate professional institution.
  • Working toward Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Adherence to professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
  • The ability to utilize a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Capability to apply suitable theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, and maintain engineering products, processes, systems, and services.
  • Proficiency in technical and commercial management, such as project management and process management.
  • Proficiency in the English language that is suitable for the nature of the work.
