Job summary

NHS National Services Scotland in Kirkcaldy is offering a fixed-term Health Care Support Worker position within the Pre-assessment suite. The role supports the Senior Charge Nurse and a multidisciplinary team to prepare patients for elective surgery, primarily Monday to Friday.

Applicants should have substantial practical experience in surgical/orthopaedic settings, strong clinical and communication skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision while delivering patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• Substantial practical experience in surgical/orthopaedic settings.
• Knowledge of the acute surgical/orthopaedic pathway is desirable.
• Good decision-making skills in clinical practice and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in comprehensive medical assessments and preoperative tests to optimise patient health.
• Support the Senior Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team in managing waiting lists for elective procedures.
• Ensure high standards of patient-centred care and accurate documentation.
• Plan discharge and liaise with surgical/orthopaedic wards and theatres.
