Job summary

Upfront Recruitment is seeking an experienced Surfacing Supervisor - Civils for a permanent, full-time role based from a Middlesex office, covering Surrey, Hillingdon and London. The position combines site supervision with planning and coordinating multiple gangs to deliver surfacing and civils works on programme.

The ideal candidate will have proven supervisory experience in surfacing, highways or civils, with CSCS and SMSTS/SSSTS qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising surfacing, asphalt, highways or civils works.
• Strong knowledge of road surfacing, footways and civils.
• Valid CSCS card and SMSTS/SSSTS certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day delivery across multiple surfacing and civils sites.
• Coordinate directly employed teams and subcontractors to meet programme.
• Plan labour, plant and materials to maintain schedule.
• Conduct site inspections, toolbox talks and quality checks.
• Maintain accurate site records and progress information.
• Liaise with Project Managers, clients and authorities.

An experienced Surfacing Supervisor - Civils is required for an established highways, surfacing and civil engineering contractor. The role combines site supervision with planning and coordination, overseeing multiple gangs and ensuring surfacing and associated civils works are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.

Location

The position is based from the company's Middlesex office, with projects primarily covering Surrey, Hillingdon and the London Boroughs. The role involves regular site visits alongside office-based planning and coordination.

Full-time, Permanent Position

This is a permanent position working generally Monday to Friday, with full working days and a Saturday half day.

About the Role

The Surfacing Supervisor will oversee day-to-day delivery across multiple surfacing and associated civils sites, coordinating directly employed teams and subcontractors while keeping labour, plant and materials aligned with programme requirements.

• Supervising 2 - 4 surfacing and civils gangs across multiple sites.
• Coordinating asphalt, surfacing, footway and associated civils works.
• Planning labour, plant and materials to maintain programme.
• Conducting site inspections, toolbox talks, briefings and quality checks.
• Maintaining accurate site records and progress information while resolving issues promptly.
• Liaising with Project Managers, clients, subcontractors, Local Authorities and senior management.

Candidate Background

To be successful as a Surfacing Supervisor, you will need proven supervisory experience within surfacing, asphalt, highways or civil engineering environments. The role would particularly suit someone with practical knowledge of surfacing operations who can manage several teams while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and delivery.
