Job summary

Salford City Council, Granville Respite Care, is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to provide person-centred support in a 14-bedroom respite service in Monton, Eccles. You will work with specialist practitioners to apply Positive Behaviour Support and ensure complex care needs are met.

About Granville

Granville provides planned short breaks, and respite stays for adults with learning disabilities, autism, complex health needs, and behavioural support needs through our specialist short break/respite service in the heart of Monton, Eccles. As a respite service, we support a wide range of people 24/7 for varying lengths of stay, creating a fast-paced, dynamic, and rewarding environment where every day is different.

We are looking for enthusiastic, compassionate, and motivated Support Workers to join our team at Granville Respite Care, our purpose-built 14-bedroom Short Break and Respite Service.

About the role

As a Support Worker you will tailor person centred care with the individual needs of people, aspirations, and outcomes. You will work with specialist lead practitioners to adopt and ensure Positive Behaviour Support strategies are effectively applied and to ensure Complex Care needs are met. You will work closely with specialist practitioners, drawing on knowledge, advice and guidance and apply and embed this in everyday practices.

Your role will involve:

• Ensuring the person is at the heart of everything we do
• Supporting people to enjoy arts, crafts, games and leisure activities in their daily life.
• Helping people to manage finances, their home, domestic tasks, meal preparation, medication, routine appointments and personal care
• Supporting community outings and local activities.
• Maintaining accurate records and reporting any concerns
• Supporting people to develop positive relationships and to be an equal and valued member of their local community
• Working collaboratively with families, carers, health professionals, and colleagues to ensure safe and effective support

What we’re looking for

We are seeking skilled and values‑driven support workers with:

• A caring, practical and person-centred approach
• Experience of supporting adults with complex care needs including learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, mental health needs and behaviours of concern
• Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with people who use services, their families, carers and colleagues
• Good communication skills with the ability to adapt approaches to meet the needs of individuals
• Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
• Flexibility in your approach to working patterns and service needs

• Understanding of Positive Behaviours Support (PBS) principles and the ability to apply proactive, preventative strategies in practice is desirable
• Awareness of relevant legislation including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Equality Act 2010 is desirable
• Commitment to learning and professional development

DBS (Enhanced): Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check – currently £49.50. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £12.38 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £49.50.
