Job description

We are looking for a Male Mentor with extensive experience and commitment to working with male clients who have complex needs.

We offer various support levels for adults with learning disabilities/difficulties, Asperger's, Dementia, Alzheimer's, Huntington's Disease, and related conditions. Our support may include communication difficulties, Autism, epilepsy, mental health issues, and physical disabilities. We also assist adults facing homelessness, substance addictions, self-harm, and neglect.

Promoting Independence South West employs strengths-based and Person-Centred approaches to mentor and support clients in reaching their potential and living fulfilling lives. We collaborate with clients, their support networks, and other sectors including statutory, voluntary, and charity organizations.

Our support services cover activities such as cooking, budgeting, shopping, road awareness, public transport access, community activities, education, and exploring voluntary or paid work opportunities.

To prevent clients from stagnating, monthly reviews are conducted by the Mentor Lead and Co-ordinator to assess progress, identify strengths, set goals, and consider alternative support strategies.

This role is not for carers or domiciliary care that involves personal care or 'doing for' clients. Reablement is central to the Mentor Coordinator role.

We expect our team members to demonstrate excellent communication and mentoring skills, grounded in respect, honesty, and acceptance of individual differences. Recognizing that each person’s view of independence varies is essential.

The role includes conducting initial needs assessments, managing risks, working independently, and accurately recording outcomes and plans.

An understanding of Safeguarding Adults and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 is essential to practice.

We offer a two-week intensive induction covering legislation, safeguarding, health & safety, and bespoke training in Autism and Mental Health. Our staff are encouraged to undertake NVQ2 & NVQ3 within two years of employment.
