Are you looking for a rewarding Support Worker role in Complex Care?

We are looking for friendly, caring and dependable Support Worker to provide one-to-one, person-centred support for a young man in his 30s who has a brain injury, epilepsy and is wheelchair dependent. This is a genuinely rewarding position, ideal for someone who is patient, confident and comfortable supporting complex needs and behaviours that can sometimes be challenging, while promoting independence, wellbeing and an active, social lifestyle.

He enjoys getting out and about and making the most of life. He loves watching films, going to the cinema, enjoying social activities, and taking part in games and interactive experiences.

He is supported by a multidisciplinary team, including Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy, and Support Workers play an important role in helping to follow and maintain these therapy programmes. This includes attending hydrotherapy sessions in the pool and supporting the communication strategies already in place.

He also has a much-loved kitten called Velma, so being comfortable around pets is an important part of everyday life in the home.

To support him effectively, we are looking for people who are warm, positive and approachable, with a good level of awareness and sensitivity to their surroundings. You will need to be confident using your own initiative, working closely with others as part of a team, and developing a trusting and respectful relationship with him. You should be able to respond calmly and confidently to his individual needs and provide consistent, person-centred support.

Please note that a full UK driving licence is essential for this role, as it involves driving the client in his adapted vehicle.

• Part time: 24 hours / 2 shifts per week
• Full time: 36 hours / 3 shifts per week - Waking Nights Only

Shift Patterns:

• Day Shifts: 08:00-20:00
• Waking Night Shifts: 20:00-08:00
• Sleepover Shifts: 20:00-08:00 (sleepover midnight to 08:00)
• Bank Holidays and weekend work form part of the rota

Pay Rates:

• £14.00 per hour weekday day rate
• £15.00 per hour weekday waking night rate
• Double time for Bank Holidays
• Rates are paid £1.00 per hour less during probationary period

Role Responsibilities:

• Providing personal care and medication support
• Supporting with daily living tasks within the home environment
• Implementing therapy and communication programs
• Accompanying the client on outings and occasional family holidays

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Purpose: To support your client with their day-to-day living, promoting their independence and supporting them to live a fulfilled life ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.

Internal and Management: This role will report to the Registered Manager

Key Duties/Responsibilities of our Support Worker:

Supporting your client to safely lead a fulfilling and more independent life by:

• Provide practical support for your client and their family, such as helping with personal care, household tasks and paperwork
• Assist and encourage your client to engage in everyday home, social, leisure and work activities, according to the individual's choice
• Support and monitor your client's healthcare needs, including administering medication and other clinical tasks
• Help your clients to access community facilities and be included in community groups, if they so wish
• Understand their communication needs and adapt your own communication style accordingly
• Keep accurate, up to date records of all the care you provide
• Work positively with other professionals, such as doctors and therapists, to ensure consistency of support
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times
• Participate in learning and development opportunities as required
