FitzRoy are recruiting Support Workers for our new Supported Living service in Abingdon where you will be supporting two adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs and may display behaviours that may challenge.

If you are an experienced support worker or healthcare assistant who can demonstrate best practice when supporting people with autism, mental health needs, acquired brain injury or learning disabilities and those who have experienced trauma we’d love to hear from you.

  • Full time and Part time roles available
  • Day shift: £11.53 per hour weekdays and £12.68 weekends.
  • Currently offering + £2.50 for overtime shifts.
  • Time and a half or double time for public holidays.
  • Sleep-ins are £74.00 per night.
  • 30 days holiday when you start.

As a support worker, you’ll wake up every day feeling good about your work. Even without previous care experience, as long as you have the right values we’ll train and support you to be confident in delivering care and support to transform lives for people who display challenging behaviours and have suffered from mental health issues. There will be a range of needs as a support worker with the expectation to provide flexible support to evolve with the needs of the tenants over time. There will be a focus an initial focus on autism and mental health, our support workers will need to evidence specialist skills in autism and experience of supporting people with mental health issues.

What does a Support Worker do?

A support worker’s day is varied and rewarding. You will:

  • Support everyone differently to their individual needs.
  • Be actively involved in a range of people’s interests and activities from shopping, to crafts to bowling or swimming.
  • Support and encourage with personal care, such as showers and baths.
  • Provide flexible support to meet the needs of the person who may be variably affected by their condition, including a proactive and creative approach if the person is refusing to accept support.
  • Be responsible for working to a positive behaviour support plan, with person-specific training for staff members.

The support plan should consist of:

  • Clear targeted outcomes that are achievable and realistic
  • The outcomes will be measured through on-going functional analysis/assessments.
  • A specified timescale to meet personalised intervention goals
  • The plan should include strategies for the person to utilise as well as their staff team

Support Worker Hours

Shifts are 7.5 hours, and a full-time contract is 37.5 hours. The earliest start is from 7am and the latest finish is until 10pm.

Weekend working is essential, which will be on a rotating basis and when you work a weekend you will have the time off in the week.
