Job summary

IBC Healthcare in Selby is seeking an experienced Support Worker to provide one-to-one support to an adult with learning disabilities in a home and community setting. The role focuses on therapeutic, person-centred care, helping the person build routine, confidence and independence.

You will work day and night shifts full-time, with a pay rate of £12.90 per hour, training included, and access to discounts and benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, or behaviours of concern.
• Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed practice.
• Strong de-escalation, communication and observational skills.
• Calm, patient, non-reactive approach under pressure.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and promote independence.

Responsibilities

• Deliver person-centred, therapeutic support tailored to the individual's needs, preferences and goals.
• Promote independence and meaningful choice in all aspects of daily life.
• Support with personal care where required, always maintaining dignity and respect.
• Support medication administration in line with policy.
• Support daily living tasks, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, appointments as opportunities to build skills and confidence.
• Actively encourage community access and social inclusion, tailored to the person's interests.
• Follow the support plan, risk assessment and positive behaviour support plan consistently.
• Recognise early signs of distress and respond using de-escalation techniques, minimising restrictive practice.
• Complete accurate, timely documentation and records.
• Work collaboratively with family members, healthcare professionals, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
