Job description

This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

We are a warm, kind and supportive family looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to support our wonderful 22-year-old son.

Our son is autistic and is a gentle, funny young man with a lovely personality. He enjoys swimming, trips to shopping centres, getting out into the community. He thrives with routine, patience, encouragement and people who take the time to build trust and understanding.

The role involves supporting him to develop confidence, independence and social opportunities within the local community, while helping him access enjoyable and meaningful activities. You will have the opportunity to make a genuine difference in a young persons life by building a positive, trusting and rewarding relationship.

Our son can be sensitive to loud noises and does not like unexpected physical contact, so a calm, understanding and autism-aware approach is essential. Support with some personal care and day-to-day guidance will also be required.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, patient, caring and dependable.
  • Understanding of Autism (experience preferred).
  • Flexible with a good sense of humour.
  • Comfortable encouraging independence whilst providing the right level of support.
  • Respectful of privacy, dignity and individual needs.
  • Happy accompanying and encouraging participation in enjoyable community activities.
  • Able to use their own initiative and adapt to changing situations.

A driver with their own vehicle and business insurance is essential.

In return, you will be welcomed by a genuinely lovely family who value kindness, communication and teamwork. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a real positive impact while supporting a fantastic young man to live a fulfilling, confident and independent life.

DBS and reference checks will be required for this role (cost covered by the local authority).
