About Us:

At Oaklea we work in partnership with the individuals we support (our customers). We strive to support people within the framework of the seven keys to Citizenship; Love, Freedom, Life, Purpose, Help, Money and Home.

Every employee wants a purposeful job - to do something meaningful. At Oaklea, we can give you that. You will have opportunities to develop as a person, colleague, leader and advocate. You’ll make new friends and feel inspired to reach your potential. We’ll ask a lot of you - but you’ll get back so much more. With us, it is never ‘just a job’.

In return for your hard work and passion, we can give you real meaning and purpose in your work.

About the Role:

As a Lifestyle Co-ordinator, you will work as part of a dedicated team to provide person-centred support to the five gentlemen living in the home.

Every person is different, and your role will be about getting to know each individual — their personality, preferences, interests, routines and aspirations — and supporting them to have choice and control over their lives.

You will help the gentlemen to enjoy activities they love, access their local community, develop their skills and try new experiences.

Your role will include:
  • Supporting individuals with their personal care and daily routines.
  • Supporting with medication in line with individual care plans and training.
  • Developing positive, trusting relationships with the people we support.
  • Understanding and responding to different communication styles and individual ways of expressing choices, needs and emotions.
  • Supporting people who communicate without verbal speech to express themselves and make choices.
  • Helping individuals to access the local community and take part in activities they enjoy.
  • Supporting people to develop and maintain their independence and life skills.
  • Encouraging people to try new experiences and take positive risks.
  • Supporting individuals to work towards their personal goals and aspirations.
  • Helping with appointments, shopping, budgeting, cooking and domestic tasks where required.
  • Promoting health and wellbeing.
  • Supporting people to maintain relationships and connections that are important to them.
  • Working alongside colleagues, families and other professionals to provide consistent, person-centred support.
  • Completing appropriate records and documentation to ensure high standards of care and support.

The home is a welcoming environment where the people we support are encouraged to be active participants in their own lives. You will help create opportunities for them to enjoy their interests, make choices, develop their confidence and be part of their local community.

What we need from you:

You don't necessarily need previous experience of working in care. What matters most to us is your attitude, values and commitment to making a positive difference.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Kind, caring and compassionate.
  • Patient, reliable and approachable.
  • Positive, enthusiastic and willing to get involved.
  • A good communicator who can build meaningful relationships.
  • Respectful of people's choices, rights and individuality.
  • Patient and observant, with an interest in understanding how each person communicates.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team.
  • Willing to learn and develop new skills.
  • Able to encourage and motivate others while promoting their independence.
  • Flexible and able to respond positively to the changing needs.

Experience of supporting people with learning disabilities, autism or complex communication needs would be beneficial, but full training and support will be provided.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who sees the person first and is committed to helping the gentlemen we support live the lives they choose.

Working pattern

This is a 31.5-hour permanent position based at our registered care home in Ulverston.

The role involves working as part of a rota, which may include days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays, depending on the needs of the people we support.

Sleep-in shifts are part of the role where required.

A full DBS check will be required for this role.

Driving licence is preferred but not essential.

An Enhanced DBS will be required for each successful candidate (Paid for by Oaklea, T&Cs apply)
