Job description

At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose to improve people’s lives.

Would you like a varied and rewarding role, supporting people and working in a team? If so, we would love to hear from you.

About The Team

Our day services support people who have Learning Disabilities and/or Autism with varying levels of need. This is an opportunity to be part of a service which makes a real difference to the lives of those people and their families. Our day services are based at Connections (Writhlington, Radstock) and Carrswood (Twerton, Bath) and we support people on those sites and in the wider community.

About The Role

We are growing the amount of support provided by our services and as part of this we have a need for additional support workers for September/October 2026 start dates (subject to all clearances being obtained).

Our support workers fulfil an essential role. They create, lead and support people to engage in activities and opportunities throughout the week. We support people with activities such as music, art, dance, drama, sensory baking, cooking, sensory stories, gardening, games, rambling, gym sessions, swimming, cycling, football (we have our own football team!), rebound therapy, physiotherapy and using sensory rooms.

We encourage our support workers to bring their own skills and interests into their work, one of our support workers recently won an award for leading the creation of a music room at Connections Day Service.

These roles involve person centred care and working in a team to create a wonderful experience every time that a person attends the services. Our staff do need to be able to complete personal care (assisting a person to use the toilet, keep clean or change a continence pad) full training and shadowing of experienced staff is provided.

An extension of this role is the expectation for staff to support people in the wider community, either through support with voluntary roles/community groups or skills work in a person’s own home and their local area. These options are proposed to be in place from September 2026.

About You
  • Care experience (preferred but not essential)
  • Transferable skills
  • The ability to work in a physically demanding role
You Can Expect
  • A comprehensive induction
  • Regular supervision
  • A supportive team around you
  • A full training programme
