About The Role

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our Sound Futures, Supported Housing Accommodation Service in the Plymouth area as a Housing Support Worker.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tenancy-related support both in supported housing and through community outreach.
  • Collaborate with Plymouth Alliance partners, landlords, and housing providers to help customers transition into independent living.
  • Support individuals with a range of needs including mental health, substance use, budgeting, benefits, and employment.
  • Develop, review, and update support plans, risk assessments, and needs assessments.
  • Encourage and empower customers to build life skills and maintain their tenancies.
  • Liaise with key agencies such as Probation, Police, Local Authority Services, and healthcare providers.
  • Promote social inclusion, wellbeing, and access to fitness and community activities.
  • Attend multi-agency meetings to coordinate effective support and risk management.
  • Use strong communication skills to build trust, navigate complex situations, and advocate for customers’ needs.

What You Will Need

This role can be challenging at times, as you will be supporting individuals with low to medium complex needs from diverse backgrounds. You will need to be resilient, adaptable, and confident in managing multiple cases. Excellent communication skills are essential—you will be working closely with a wide range of professionals and agencies, and your ability to listen, empathise, and problem-solve will be key to your success.

This role is being offered on a full time, permanent basis working 37 hours per week. This is a scheme based role in Plymouth and you will be working on a 6-week rolling rota on a shift basis, working between the hours of 8am and 10pm, including some weekends.

About The Candidate

To be considered for the role of Support Worker, you will have the essential skills, knowledge and experience for a Level 1 role (please see our candidate information pack) and the following role specific experience:

  • Have an understanding of support needs and support planning.
  • Have experience of risk assessing and risk management.
  • Be a great communicator with the ability to build a rapport.
  • Have accurate record keeping and computer skills.
  • Be confident in lone working and be a good team player.
  • Have a flexible approach to work.
  • Be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Be resilient and adaptable.
  • Have an open, friendly personality and the ability to maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations.
  • Have the ability to adopt a methodical and organised approach to work.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of welfare and housing benefits.
  • Have a good understanding of safeguarding and emotional and mental health issues.
