Job description

This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

We are looking for 2 to 3 carers to provide care and support, ensuring sufficient coverage. The position involves 12 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, following these shifts: 9am – 9.30am for morning calls and around 5pm for teatime calls.

About the recipient

The individual is a 51-year-old female residing in Goole. She requires a dedicated and suitable person to support her due to osteoarthritis, which causes pain throughout her body and limited movement. She has:

• Chronic asthma
• COPD
• Dysphagia (food must be cut into thin pieces to prevent choking)
• Diabetes

She enjoys talking to friends and watching films. She prefers having choices in bedding, food, and drinks. Due to past trauma, she does not like her doors being shut, so they must always remain open.

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Meal preparation and some domestic tasks
• Assisting with medication
• Supporting with personal care

Female workers only due to personal care requirements.

About the candidate

The lady is very outgoing but suffers from significant pain. She loves talking with her friends and daughter. She is bed-bound due to her disability and experiences mental health challenges related to her pain and being confined to bed. She values having her own decisions regarding bedding and food. Care must be gentle, explained clearly, and tailored to her needs, especially during pain episodes when she might be quiet.

The suitable candidate must:

• Be motivated, proactive, and able to work independently
• Be patient, caring, and understanding
• Have good communication skills (clear and effective)
• Build positive relationships to encourage and support her
• Have experience caring for individuals with additional needs
• Be flexible with working hours
• Work effectively as part of a team with another carer
• Be comfortable around animals, as there are two indoor cats

DBS and reference checks are required for this position, with costs covered by the local authority.
