Job description

Support Worker

Glenrothes Outreach

£12.60 per hour

Full time and part time positions available

Please note we require candidates to have at least 6 months experience in a similar role

The role:

There are 34 supported people who require person-centred support to meet their needs. The shifts are on a rota basis and involve lone working 1-to-1 and occasional double up 2-to-1 support.

Your typical shift will usually begin with reading or handing over updates from the previous days, so you are informed about the individuals’ plans and recent activities. Some services can be challenging and require strict guidelines to ensure supported individuals can live fulfilling lives.

If working early shifts, you will support individuals with waking, showering, dressing, breakfast, and medication administration as needed.

We promote positive interactions to foster independence. When completing household chores and meal prep, we encourage shared responsibility between staff and supported individuals. We also support individuals in managing their finances, which promotes learning and independence.

We assist our service users in maintaining social connections with family and friends, accessing community centres and events, attending appointments, and participating in group activities. About 90% of supported individuals use public transport with staff support.

At the end of each day, staff document relevant information in a daily log to ensure continuity and structure in support.

Evening support may involve helping individuals cook dinner and practice independence skills, including food preparation, kitchen cleaning, and safety. Afterwards, individuals may go out or relax at home, engaging in activities like watching TV or sports.

Shift patterns

One service involves sleepover shifts with 1:1 support, with both male and female staff. The shifts are:

  • 3pm - 11pm (back shift)
  • 11pm - 7am (sleep night)
  • 7am - 3pm (day shift)

The other service is a 24-hour care with a waking night shift, staffed by male-only staff. Shifts are:

  • 8am - 3pm (day shift)
  • 3pm - 10pm (back shift)
  • 10pm - 8am (waking night)

Benefits and Rewards

  • A minimum of 28 days paid holiday per year, including bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time)
  • Accredited training to enhance your skills
  • Employer contributory pension scheme
  • Mileage paid at 35p per mile up to 10,000 miles annually
  • Additional benefits: Health Cash Plan, £10,000 Life Cover, Employee Assistance Programme, Discounted Goods, Cycle to Work, Financial Wellbeing, Referral Bonuses, Recognition Initiatives

We seek candidates embodying our core values: Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, and Excellence. If you can identify with at least six of the following skills—Honest, Good Communicator, Strong Values, Flexible, Passionate, Self-Motivated, Reliable, Caring, Inclusive—you may be the right fit.

Initial contact will likely be via email, so please check all folders regularly. We are an equal opportunities employer committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce. Reasonable adjustments are available for applicants with disabilities or other needs—please inform us accordingly.
