Job summary

Turning Point UK in Bulkington runs a 24-hour residential service for adults with learning disabilities. You will help residents develop daily living skills, participate in activities, and support independence in a caring, person-centred environment.

This hands-on role covers personal care, cooking, cleaning, and community outings, with strong emphasis on safety, record-keeping and teamwork. A passion for people and good communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Essential empathy, care and enthusiasm for helping people with learning disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Flexible, patient and non-judgemental approach to residents.
  • Good communication and ability to support with anxiety where needed.
  • Ability to complete physical tasks such as manual handling when required.

Responsibilities

  • Promote independence and support a full range of daily activities.
  • Assist with personal care, cooking, cleaning and outings in the community.
  • Develop residents' life skills and personal interests.
  • Support residents to stay safe and healthy and manage finances where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to service monitoring.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to residents' lives as you improve their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress with us.Where will I be working?Our service in Bulkington provides a 24-hour residential facility in providing care for adults with Learning Disabilities and additional health issues. Staff will develop communication skills such as knowledge of signing and visual aids as the people we support are non-verbal.We endeavour to create positive family relationships offering a good circle of support. There is a strong focus on supporting individuals' lives in a person centred way which includes various activities, shopping, managing own budgets and cooking. We tailor our services to enable people to be as independent as possible.We use a digital social care record system, to support daily recording, which will make your day-to-day tasks easier and allows you to spend more time with the People We Support.Shift PatternsThis is a 24-hour service, therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts including early mornings, late evenings, waking nights, sleep-ins and some weekends.To be considered for this role you must be able to drive.Role ResponsibilityWhat will I be doing?This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:promoting the independence of people we supportsupporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holidayarranging activities in the home and in the local communitydeveloping residents' life skills and personal interestshelping residents stay safe and healthyassisting with personal care needsmanual handlingsupporting people with medicationensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements.The Ideal CandidateWhat skills and qualities do I need to have?Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential.
