Job summary

Turning Point in England is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to help residents with learning disabilities in our residential service. You will play a vital role in everyday life, providing person-centred support, assisting with meals, personal care, and community activities.

This 24-hour service requires flexibility across shifts; full training and career progression opportunities are offered within a not-for-profit organisation committed to improving lives.

Responsibilities

  • Promote independence by helping residents build life skills and interests.
  • Support daily activities including cooking, cleaning and outings.
  • Organise in-house and community activities for residents.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility; manage moving and handling.
  • Support residents with medications and attendance at appointments.
  • Use digital care records to document daily progress and care tasks.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to residents’ lives as you improve their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress with us.

Where will I be working?

As a support worker you will be working at our residential service where we support 7 individuals with Learning Disabilities and additional needs. Our care services are about people’s whole lives and therefore we make them human and personal. The culture is crucial and staff are its heart and model Turning Points values.

As a support worker will be required to provide a person-centred approach in all aspects of the individuals lives, including managing their home, helping prepare meals ,personal care, accessing their local community facilities, and maintaining contact with other important people in their lives. We tailor our services to enable people to be as independent as possible. A full UK driving license is preferable.

Shift Patterns

This is a 24 hour service, therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts from 7:00/8:00 am to 2:00/3:00pm and 2:00/3:00 pm to 9:00/10:00pm, possible waking nights and alternate weekends.

Role Responsibility

What will I be doing?

This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:

  • Promoting the independence of people we support by developing their life skills and personal interests
  • Supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning, cooking and days out
  • Arranging activities in the home and in the local community
  • Assisting with personal care needs and moving and handling
  • Supporting people with medication and to their appointments
  • We use a digital social care record system, to support daily recording, which will make your day-to-day tasks easier and allows you to spend more time with the People We Support

Our support workers must be determined to make a positive difference to someone’s life. We are looking for someone who has a sense of humor, excellent communication skills, a responsible and flexible attitude, a commitment to the job, and the ability to think quickly and solve problems.
