At Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities across England.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to people's lives by improving their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career as you gain experience and training to progress with us.

Where will I be working?

You will be working at our service in Birchington, supporting 8 individuals. We offer a 24-hour supported living facility providing support for adults with Learning Disabilities. We tailor our support to enable people to be as independent as possible.

Support Workers are linked to work with a specific person based on shared preferences and personalities, creating a bespoke core team of staff.

Days can include supporting people to meet with friends or family, accessing health professionals, housework, shopping, day trips, cooking, holidays, and gym classes.

People we support have a mixture of communication, mobility, and health needs. This environment is quiet but active. The location offers good access to local transport, being close to the train station and bus routes, with the town nearby.

Shift Patterns

This is a 24-hour service, so flexibility is essential. You will work a range of shifts, including nights and some weekends.

Role Responsibilities

What will I be doing?

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. Your duties will include:

  • Promoting independence for the people we support
  • Supporting daily activities like cleaning, cooking, outings, and holidays
  • Arranging activities in the home and community
  • Developing residents' life skills and interests
  • Helping residents stay safe and healthy
  • Assisting with personal care
  • Manual handling
  • Supporting with medication
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service monitoring

What skills and qualities do I need?

Knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs is beneficial but not essential. Essential qualities include:

  • Passionate, caring, and enthusiastic
  • Flexible, patient, and non-judgemental
  • A great team player with energy
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to perform physical tasks like manual handling
