We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Worker to work with a delightful 14-year-old girl with cerebral palsy in Aberdare. The role involves personal care, therapy programmes, and community activities, primarily based at the client’s home.

This is a great opportunity to develop your skills. Previous support staff have progressed to gain nursing qualifications.

The client enjoys spending time with family, watching TV, and playing with noisy toys. She attends school, youth club, and Sunday school, and loves going on outings, rides, horse-riding, swimming, colouring, drawing, and playing board games.

What you'll be working:

Flexible hours including full-time, part-time, and bank shifts in the client's home and community in Aberdare, with up to 144 hours over four weeks. Shifts may include day, waking nights, and sleep-in nights.

Pay rates:

  • £16.00 per hour for weekday days and waking nights
  • £12.21 per hour for sleep-in shifts (current national living wage)
Shift patterns include:

Term time:

Monday to Friday, 15:00-21:00

School holidays:

Waking nights from Monday to Sunday, 20:00/20:30 to 08:00/08:30

Sleep-in shifts:

Available from Monday to Sunday, 21:00-09:00. These shifts consist of 10 hours sleep-in (paid at the national living wage) and 2 hours active duty, totaling 12 hours at the applicable hourly rate.

What you'll be doing:

Main roles & responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring consistency of approach with the client as per care plans and therapy goals.
  • Liaising with and supporting the family.
  • Working as part of a team and communicating effectively with colleagues.
  • Following the documented service user plan.
  • Participating in manual handling procedures.
  • Encouraging participation in activities while balancing school and rest.
  • Delivering educational, social, and therapeutic programmes as directed.
  • Assisting with maintaining hygiene standards.

What you'll have:
  • Registration with Social Care Wales is preferred; if not registered, you will need to do so within 6 months.
  • A recognised Health and Social Care qualification (QCF Level 2 or above) is desirable.
  • Experience caring for children with learning, physical, and communication difficulties is desirable but not essential; full training will be provided.
  • A full driving licence is desirable; the client has a vehicle you may drive, but shifts can be worked on a 2:1 basis without a licence.
  • Competent IT skills are desirable.

This position requires a fully enhanced DBS disclosure and registration with the DBS Update Service.
