Job summary

Cera Care is seeking a dedicated Support Worker in the Southampton area to assist individuals with mental health conditions and histories of substance misuse. Training will be provided, with flexibility on shifts including days, nights, and weekends.

You will de-escalate crises, support positive changes, and work with a range of professionals to ensure access to necessary services. No prior experience is required, but compassion and resilience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to support people with mental health conditions and substance misuse.
  • Willingness to work shift patterns including days, nights, weekends.
  • Full training provided; progression opportunities may be available.

Responsibilities

  • Promote positive behaviour and identify triggers to prevent escalations.
  • Handle emergencies and crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, social services and communities.
  • Be sensitive to diverse cultural backgrounds and co-occurring issues.
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centred support to service users.

Job Description

We're looking for Support Workers in the Southampton area. As a Mental Health Support Worker with Cera you will be playing a fundamental part in improving the lives of people with mental health conditions and a history of substance misuse. You will need to be comfortable supporting people who may at times present with challenging behaviour, training will be given. The role may include elements of personal care.

Are you prepared to support people in crisis, and to de-escalate sensitive situations?

Can you help people to make a positive change to their lives?

Can you communicate effectively and use active listening skills to understand people's needs?

Role highlights:

  • Shift patterns consist of days or nights, part-time or full-time, we are flexible on the days you work although some weekend working is essential.
  • We can only consider both drivers
  • Opportunity to complete either NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Social Care (through work-based learning) and further progression opportunities

More about the role:

  • In this role you will need to be able to communicate and promote positive behaviour, identifying triggers in order to prevent escalations of stressful situations.
  • You must also be prepared to handle emergencies and crisis situations, using de-escalatation techniques to diffuse situations.
  • You will have an awareness of and sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and the co-occuring disorders and the how they can influence mental health and substance misuse issues.
  • You will be resilient and able to manage stress and the emotional demands of the role.
  • You should have the ability to work collaoratively with other healthcare professionals, social services and community organisations to ensure the people you support get access to a full range of support services.
