Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is recruiting a Support Services Assistant for a permanent part-time position (11.52 hours) based at Leverndale Hospital. The role focuses on core cleaning services within Health Centre settings, requiring flexibility across departments and adherence to infection control standards.

Full training will be provided, including cleaning methods, chemical safety, PPE usage, and NHS policies.

  • Rotate across clinical areas delivering high-quality cleaning service to allocated areas.
  • Ensure safe and economical use of cleaning agents and operate required equipment.
  • Monitor stock levels and notify Supervisor when materials are needed; assist with deliveries.
  • Wear PPE and complete daily/weekly cleaning records accurately.

Job description

The role:

As a Support Services Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality domestic and catering services, helping to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors. Please note that within Health Centres, this role focuses on providing a core cleaning service.

Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • This is a permanent post, working part time hours (11.52 hours)
  • These hours will be worked Saturday – Sunday
  • This post will be based at Leverndale Hospital - You will be based within the advertised service and will be required to work flexibly across a range of clinical areas and departments. The role requires a flexible approach to daily duties to meet the needs of the service.
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
Key responsibilities:

You will follow agreed cleaning work schedules, methods and procedures in accordance with the NHS Scotland National Cleaning Specification and the Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) Task Force Code of Practice.

You will rotate across clinical areas and departments, delivering an efficient, high-quality cleaning service while following defined work schedules for allocated areas.

You will ensure the safe and economical use of cleaning agents in line with manufacturers' instructions and operate mechanical cleaning equipment where required.

You will monitor cleaning stock levels, notify your Supervisor when additional materials are required, and assist with checking deliveries of cleaning supplies and equipment.

You will wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the department and accurately complete all required daily and weekly cleaning records.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Full training will be provided to ensure you can carry out your duties safely and confidently. This includes training in cleaning methods, the safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, infection prevention and control procedures, and departmental policies and practices.
