This is a unique Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) role within Rolls Royce Submarines business acting as the face of Quality Assurance across the submarine supply chain. This exciting role will give you experience in the Quality Assurance activities within the submarines nuclear sector.

Supply Quality Engineers (SQE) work within the Performance and Improvement Function in the Submarines business and are responsible for conducting product and documentation verification and final product release to our customers from the Rolls- Royce’s Manufacturing Business Units and the external supply chain. This vacancy is for both internal manufacturing facilities and external supply chain and may include significant amount of travel (mostly domestic) and potentially overnight stay requests of up to 4-5 days a week.

You will work with our Design Authority, Manufacturing Engineers, Supply Chain Planners, and Buyers to ensure that all aspects of manufacture meet the requirements of the product definition and purchase order. The SQE will also experience significant interaction with our customers during the execution of this role.

What you will be doing

As the Supplier Quality Engineer you will operate as the Rolls-Royce Submarines Independent Acceptance Authority ensuring contractual, customer and regulatory requirements are satisfied. This includes (but not limited to):

  • Operating as an Independent Acceptance Authority for all products and services supplied by Rolls-Royce Submarines.
  • Performing surveillance on Rolls-Royce Submarines material; both during manufacture and upon completion.
  • Identifying and acting where manufacturing facilities and/or suppliers do not meet contractual, customer & regulatory requirements by implementing Rolls-Royce non-conformance processes.
  • Representing Rolls-Royce Submarines Quality Division at pre-contract reviews to:

Ensure that purchase order requirements are fully understood by all stakeholders

Plan surveillance based on risk and previous experience of the materiel and supply chain performance.

  • Identify and escalate suppliers who do not meet quality expectations by generating and monitoring supplier ‘right first time’ data.
  • Contribute to improvement activities by coaching people with their understanding of Rolls-Royce Submarines requirements.

To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Experience of the Nuclear Industry is preferred, however engineers from Aerospace, Automotive, Rail, Oil and Gas and other highly regulated industries will be considered.
  • Experience of working with Submarines processes, products and documentation is preferred but knowledge and experience working with a variety of manufacturing processes will be considered.
  • Experience of ISO9001, root cause investigation would be advantageous but notessential.
  • Degree in an Engineering discipline will be preferred or ONC, HNC with significant quality experience.
  • UK Driving Licence

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place.
