Location: Onsite at our Bristol HQ, with occasional travel to suppliers and partners
Salary band range (dependent on experience): £55,000 to £65,000 per annum DOE
Reports to: Director of Finance and Operations
Responsible for: Materials Coordinator
The Company:
We are Open Bionics, a Bristol-based medical device and robotics scale-up on a mission to create and democratise technology that enhances the human body.We design, develop and manufacture world-leading bionic limbs – including our flagship myoelectric Hero Arm – helping people with upper limb differences turn disabilities into superpowers.
We’ve collaborated with global brands including Star Wars, Marvel, Twentieth Century Fox and Konami, and our work has been recognised with awards such as the Hanger Clinics Innovation Award. Learn more at www.openbionics.com .
Why this Role matters:
As we scale production, expand internationally, and introduce new products, a resilient and data‑driven supply chain is critical. You’ll shape how materials flow through our business, ensure continuity of supply for life‑enhancing medical devices, and build the operational foundations that support our next stage of growth — while delivering measurable cost savings across sourcing, inventory, and logistics.
The Role:
We’re looking for a hands‑on Supply Chain Manager to own the full supply chain for our bionic products — from supplier strategy and sourcing, through demand planning and inventory optimisation, to on‑time delivery to clinics and customers.
You’ll work closely with Production, Maintenance, R&D, Quality, Finance and Commercial to support growth, new product introduction (NPI) and regulatory compliance within a medical device environment with a strong focus on reducing total supply chain cost through smarter procurement, improved planning accuracy and streamlined logistics.
Key responsibilities:
- Supply chain strategy: Develop and lead a scalable supply chain strategy aligned with Open Bionics’ growth plans, quality standards and regulatory frameworks (ISO 13485).
- Supplier management: Own supplier relationships for key components (electronics, mechanical parts, packaging). Lead selection, negotiation, ordering, performance management and supplier development — driving cost reductions through competitive sourcing, contract optimisation and supplier performance improvement.
- Risk and resilience: Identify and mitigate risks across cost, quality, lead times, single‑source dependencies and market volatility. Implement contingency plans to protect continuity of supply.
- Demand and inventory planning: Lead demand and supply planning across raw materials, WIP and finished goods. Optimise stock levels and working capital to minimise excess inventory, obsolescence and carrying costs, while maintaining service levels.
- Logistics and fulfilment: Oversee goods-in and goods-out operations. Drive continuous improvement across shipping processes, freight partners, Customs and import compliance to ensure timely, cost‑efficient deliveries.
- Process and data: Implement and improve processes, KPIs and systems (ERP/MRP, forecasting tools). Track delivery performance, supplier quality, inventory accuracy, price variances, cost trends and freight costs.
- Cross‑functional collaboration: Partner with R&D teams on NPI, design for manufacture and change control, ensuring supply chain readiness for new products and markets — including early cost modelling and value‑engineering input.
Our Culture:
You will thrive at Open Bionics if:
- You love a fast pace: You are ambitious, comfortable taking risks, and want to work in an environment that moves quickly.
- You value transparency: You appreciate open communication about company performance, finances, and future plans.
- You are a collaborative expert: You know your stuff, but you love working across teams and respect the domain expertise of your colleagues.
- You want to make an impact, not coast: You bring 100% of your energy to the table. We aren't a relaxed or overly corporate environment; we are driven by results.
- You value your downtime: We work hard, but we don't do long hours. We respect your personal time and expect you to unplug completely when your contracted hours are up.
