SQA Engineer

Location: Staffordshire – full-time onsite in Stafford when not meeting suppliers. Some hybrid work available – minimum 3 days per week.

Duration: Initially 6-12 months, likely to extend and become ongoing.

Pay Rate: £35 - £37 FCSA Umbrella (inside IR35) or £24 - £26 per hour PAYE.

Role Overview: Working with a global automotive manufacturing company, the Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) will support NPI projects, working closely with suppliers to ensure quality using APQP & PPAP processes.

Responsibilities:

  1. Proactively work with suppliers up to APQP & PPAP submission point, checking suppliers at each gateway using quality product planning tools.
  2. Verify live data of product quality onsite with suppliers and ensure correct parts count.
  3. Confirm systems are in PPAP and cross-reference the PPAP documentation, checking process outputs against measurement criteria.
  4. Collaborate on new part introductions, ensuring APQP conformance.
  5. Support development, analysis, and documentation of cost information for new products, design, cost improvements, and other projects.
  6. Obtain quotations and implement engineering changes on existing parts.
  7. Work closely with Purchasing and Engineering teams to manage supplier activities.
  8. Mediate early trade-off discussions to balance performance, quality, velocity, and cost, focusing on value optimization.
  9. Lead cross-functional teams to meet cost and quality objectives.
  10. Assess suppliers for QCLDM and drive Lean & APQP process implementation.
  11. Experience with suppliers, PPAP, APQP, and manufacturing backgrounds in Castings, Machining, Fabrication, Fasteners & Fixings.
  12. Develop supplier metrics and resolve issues between suppliers, plants, and engineering teams using tools like Root Cause Analysis, PFMEA, 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, and ECA/ICA/PCA.

Candidate should have experience in dealing with suppliers, quality processes, and problem resolution within manufacturing environments.
