Job summary

Government Facility Services Ltd seeks a Mechanical Supervisor (Plumbing) to lead the mechanical teams at HMP Swaleside. You will oversee plumbing, heating and domestic water systems in a secure prison setting, ensuring safe, compliant operations.

The role requires extensive plumbing qualifications, strong planning skills and the ability to manage a 7‑day schedule while maintaining high safety standards.

Qualifications

• Requires formal plumbing & heating qualifications and trade certification.
• Candidate should have several relevant City & Guilds and NVQ qualifications.
• Experience in mechanical services for plumbing and heating is essential.
• Knowledge of water systems, Legionella control (L8) and safety practices.
• Proven ability to plan, schedule and manage maintenance projects.

Responsibilities

• Supervise plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, cleaners and staff.
• Plan and oversee maintenance of plumbing, heating and domestic water systems.
• Ensure compliance with water regulations and L8 Legionella controls.
• Maintain records of work, incidents and compliance documents.
• Lead staff to deliver safe, high‑quality work on a 7‑day schedule.

Mechanical Supervisor (Plumbing)

Location: HMP Swaleside – Salary: £46,775.42 – Contract: Permanent, Full-Time, 39 hours.

Overview

Lead the mechanical teams within HMP Swaleside, ensuring efficient operation of plumbing, heating, and water systems in a secure prison environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the work of plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, cleaners, and administrative staff.
• Plan, schedule, and oversee maintenance and repair projects for plumbing, heating, and domestic water systems.
• Ensure compliance with water supply regulations, Legionella control (L8) and good health & safety practices.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
• Lead, motivate and influence staff to deliver high‑quality, safe work in a 7‑day schedule.
• Collaborate with other maintenance disciplines to support the prison’s operational and safety requirements.

• Knowledge of risk and compliance, and demonstrable planning & project‑management skills.
