Job summary

GFSL at HMP Winchester is seeking a General Supervisor to lead the facilities maintenance team and ensure safe, compliant operations across the site. You will oversee a range of trades and support staff, coordinating daily activities to maintain a secure and rehabilitative environment for prisoners, staff, and visitors.

This is a permanent, 39-hour week role, Monday to Friday. The role requires strong leadership, a track record in facilities management, and a commitment to safety and continuous

Qualifications

• Experience in facilities management and supervisory roles.
• Knowledge of compliance requirements in facilities services.
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements applicable to facilities management.
• Relevant professional qualifications in facilities management or project management.
• Strong organisational, time management and people skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead Facilities Maintenance Team including plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, cleaners and admins.
• Ensure a safe, secure and rehabilitative environment for prisoners, staff and visitors.
• Promote a positive, inclusive culture and drive continuous improvement in operations.

Job Role: General Supervisor

Location: HMP Winchester, Romsey Rd, Winchester. SO22 5DF

Salary: £48,188.51 per annum (includes £3500 per annum location bonus)

Contract: Permanent - 39hrs per week - Mon - Fri

We are seeking a dedicated General Supervisor to join our team at HMP Winchester, a category B/C, adult male prison.

We are a Ministry of Justice business and provide critical and time-bound services to HMPPS, and are looking for a General Supervisor with a combination of:

• Previous recognised experience and supervisory skills in the facilities management service
• Experience of compliance
• Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements
• Relevant professional qualifications (facilities management / project management
• Good Health & Safety knowledge.
• Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.

Future Plans.

GFSL has been notified by it's shareholder (MOJ) that the provision of FM Services will in future be delivered by the private sector. This means that following a successful procurement process, GFSL's services will complete transfer to a private sector provider/providers no sooner than August 2027.
