Job summary

Tilbury Douglas invites engineering students to join a site-based Summer Placement in the West Midlands/Birmingham region. You will gain practical experience in construction and engineering while supporting live projects under experienced professionals.

You’ll learn how projects are engineered, managed and delivered, with opportunities to travel across project sites, receive mentoring, and contribute to day-to-day site operations and documentation.

Qualifications

• Studying towards a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management or related built environment.
• Full UK driving licence or working towards obtaining one by February 2027.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a practical and logical approach.
• Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage across teams.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day management of site operations to deliver works safely and in line with the project programme.
• Develop understanding of how construction and engineering works are carried out safely, efficiently and to required standards.
• Contribute to setting out, surveying and engineering control activities on site.
• Support preparation and review of method statements, risk assessments and quality documentation.
• Observe and support coordination of subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Attend planning meetings and progress reviews to understand planning and coordination.
• Support site logistics, temporary works and sequencing of activities.
• Work with design, commercial and operational teams to resolve technical challenges.
• Produce and maintain accurate site records, reports and documentation.
• Develop understanding of commercial processes and how programme, cost and operations influence delivery.
• Gain exposure to modern construction methods, sustainability and digital tools used on projects.
• Build strong working relationships with project teams, clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
